7 Proven Ways to Strengthen Your Fingernails

Ebony Walker  | 4 years ago
One of the most common bad habits is nail-biting. Often times, it’s done without a second thought. Some do it because of nervousness, some when they’re afraid. Some do it because they’re bored and others just do it because they don’t like their nails. What if there was a proven way to strengthen your nails – one that might make you not want to bite them, but admire them? What if you could get them so healthy and strong that biting them would no longer be an issue? Well, believe it or not, there are some things you can do to strengthen your fingernails! We can’t promise that you’ll never bite them again, but we do know that these 7 proven ways are sure to make you want to stare and admire them, instead of biting and disrupting their growth.

1. Cayenne Pepper

It may be hard to believe, but yes, Cayenne doesn’t only make your food hot – it makes your nails hot! Well, figuratively speaking. This red pepper, while very potent, can create a paste that strengthens your nail bed and promotes healthy nail growth. If you add about a half teaspoon to a little water and cream, this mixture will become nail’s best friend! And you only need to do it monthly – that’s just how potent it is! Leave it on for about 15 minutes, wash your hand thoroughly, and that’s it! Just be sure not to rub your eyes.

2. Beeswax

There’s a saying that goes, “Mind your beeswax!” but usually, it’s talking about minding your own business. In this case, we’re talking about minding your own nail business! Now we know that authentic “beeswax” can be difficult to find; however, it’s definitely worth the hunt if you want strong nails. Simply melt a few grams and mix it with a mashed-up egg (the yolk portion only). The mixture goes right onto your fingernails and helps your nails grow stronger and longer. You can do it as much as you’d like – so making this an everyday regimen is acceptable if you have the time!

3. Lemon Juice and Olive oil Mix

You probably never imagined mixing these 2 to put on your nails, but actually, they’re amazing together! Get yourself about a tablespoon of olive oil, mix it with a few drops of lemon juice, and boom! You’ve got yourself a nice, oily rub to massage into your fingernails. Matter of fact, the best time to do it is at night. If you’ve got some cotton gloves, put the mixture on your nails and then slip the gloves on and go to sleep! You’ll be amazed at how much stronger your nails will be when you do this a couple of times per week.

4. Biotin

This B-vitamin is one of the favorites when it comes to healthy, strong nails! It promotes thickness and shine to your nail beds, while aiding in vigorous growth. You can purchase them at any health store, or you could just eat more foods like salmon and lentils! They’re packed with biotin.

5. Moisturizer

Yes, it’s imperative that you keep lotion or cuticle balm with you, especially after doing house chores or simply washing your hands. Moisturizer gets into your nail bed and your cuticles, causing revitalization to occur. So if you’re that person who always adds lotion after washing your hands, that’s perfectly ok! Keep lathering. Your nails will thank you!

6. Beer

Well, that probably got your attention if you’re a lover of this beverage, but drinking a few cold ones is NOT exactly what we’re recommending. However, beer makes a great mixture to add to your nails. Simply heat a ¼ cup of olive oil. Then add it to a ¼ cup of apple cider vinegar and a ½ cup of beer. Mix it well and add to your nails. Allow it to sit for about 15 minutes. That’s it! Doing this a couple of times per week will help you get strong and healthy fingernails.

7. Water

Yep, that’s right! We saved the best for last. No hidden or hard to find element here. Simply drink some good old H2O. Water is a great way to strengthen your nails. Matter of fact, brittleness and weakened nails are a sign of dehydration. So drink up! If you can intake about 2 liters of water every day, you’ll notice an improvement in your nails and more!
As you can see, there are so many options for strengthening your fingernails. Try these out and see what works for you. In no time, you’re sure to have the healthiest nails that you’ve ever had.
