We all know that everything changes given enough time - scientists tell us that even the universe itself is expanding! Because these changes happen so slowly, they're often easy for us to miss. It's usually not until someone points out how different something is that we also realize just how much time has affected the world around us. So, that's what we're here to do. To point out how everything around you has changed, sometimes right before your very eyes! Sit back, relax, and make sure you read to the end to see just how different the world has really become.
1. No Need to Ride Shotgun
It seems like this doggo's owner was always riding shotgun, so this "good boy" decided to take matters into his own paws.
Now, the paint of his favorite spot has faded away. We love how the human doesn't care about the car. After all, the car can be replaced, but the dog can't.
2. People Petting The Donkey Have Revealed The Golden Spots Underneath
This donkey statue at the Detroit Institute of Arts encourages people to pet it, but we don't think it seems like a good idea now because of the Covid pandemic.
Imagine if they allowed people to touch statues of Greek/Roman goddesses. Guess which bits are going to be worn down the most (wink-wink).
3. The Dog's Spots Slowly Disappeared Over Time
The spots on this doggo's face faded over in 10 years and just take a close look at that cute face. It seems like the doggo needs to go to a tattoo artist.
And has anyone else noticed it looks like the dog has some nice lightly penciled eyebrows in that last picture?
4. "Who is My Good Boy?"
This statue on the Charles Bridge has one part worn out by people because they love petting the dog.
Now, it looks like the dog has a halo of light around him. We love how the dog is glowing.
5. The Rug Has Blended Into The Sidewalk
This rug at Café & Chocolaterie is so well worn that it's almost invisible. Talk about blending in!
The rug has been there since 1937 and if that is true, it'll make a lot of sense. But the only thing that seems a bit odd is that there is not even a single hole in the rug.
6. This Painter's Stir Stick Has Accumulated Layers Over The Years
This is how the cross-section of a painter's old stir-stick looks like and it's so satisfying to see.
So we think so it would be better to say it is more "worn-up" vs worn-down as it looks like a tree cross-section, only with more colors and a different middle part.
7. How To Make A Sink in Ancient Style
This is how the stone of an Italian castle looks like due to 700 years of rainfall dripping off the floor onto the exact same spot.
It perfectly shows how even the smallest things in life can wear us down in time. Every drop of water does matter, and this is a result of 700 years worth of droplets. Wow!
8. History Revealing Itself in a Cool Way
So a pothole opened up in front of this person's house after it rained cats and dogs (not literally, of course).
You can now see the original brick and a train track that suspiciously looks like the outline of a body.
9. Is That Turtle Shell?
Someone found a piece of a brick wall in Ireland that has been shaped by the surf. One wonders how long it's been there.
It seems like the brick wall has been there for many, many years because water breaks things down slowly over time.
10. Looks Like the Skin of an Old Man
This chain is so freakin' old that now it's all rusted and looks like real wood. Nature, when will you stop amazing us?
There is beauty in old things that have passed the test of time. On second thought, it looks like old, cracked leather that must have some good stories to tell.
11. Someone Has "Replace Tires" In Their Tires For When They Get Worn Down
We loved this idea as the tire reads "replace tire" when it gets worn down. It can prevent a lot of road accidents due to tires that shouldn't be driven on anymore.
But some may point out that if the car owner is too inexperienced to check for a worn tire, it is doubtful they will try to 'reading' it.
12. That Would Make Him A "Lap" Dog, Right?
This doggo runs around the pool on the same track and he's been doing it for so long that now there is a ring of dirt in the grass. Is he the Usain Bolt of doggos?
Maybe he is marking his territory or probably is bored. By the way, that's one cool pool that also looks like a trampoline.
13. Waste Not, Want Not
This local Pho shop doesn't throw away chipped bowls. Instead, they smooth the edges and keep using them. It is pretty smart and cool.
It reminds us of how they fix broken dishes with gold in Japan. It is called Kintsugi.
14. Is It A Relative of Talking Shrunken Heads?
This small pumpkin looks like a distant relative of talking shrunken heads from Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (the ones in the bus scene at the start of the movie).
Anyway, this person's wife carved this small pumpkin a few years ago and this is how it looks now. We can say that now we're simultaneously repulsed and amazed.
15. That's What Vibration Can Do
What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear/read the word vibration? We will not play any guessing games here, so let's take a look at this stainless steel bolt that is worn down by only the vibration.
Well, now it looks like an art sculpture or they can use it as a door handle.
16. Is The Coolest Sleeve Tattoo Ever?
At first glance, it looks like a super cool sleeve tattoo. But wait, this is rust formed on an old spool of wire.
It seems like abstract art. Well, Mother Nature has shown again and again how amazing it can be.
17. When Nature Starts Promoting Hiking
This is just amazing. They should have a clear warning sign: Predatory tree's on this trail. Hike at your own risk!
The tree actually started growing around the hiking sign and now it looks like Mother Nature wants humans to do something healthy. Maybe this is the tree with the little elves living inside.
18. Rustic and Artistic
When the Doberman metal sculpture got all rusted up, it started looking like an actual Doberman.
It's almost too perfect. One wonders if that was intentional. Now, they should name this Doberman 'Rusty.'
19. This Candy Looks Tasty
At first, we thought it must be some sort of candy in their initial stages of preparation. But these are layers of paint.
It is actually a piece of the wall in a car factory. The wall looks like fordite, which is also known as Motor City agate and is actually paint that is hard enough to be turned into stone.
20. Chucky's Pet Bear
Although this photo shows which bear got all the love for the past two decades, we have a feeling that it belongs to Chucky (yeah, that notorious "dead" serial killer whose spirit inhabits a "Good Guy" doll).
Now the bear can say that "love has torn me apart." So, it is true that love kills. Hmm...
21. Is That Ron Weasley's Car?
It seems like Ron Weasley abandoned the car in the forbidden forest. We feel bad for poor little Ford Anglia. It would be best if Ron tries to fix it.
Jokes aside, the car belongs to this person who left it 40 years ago when its engine seized. It was his first car.
22. Pac-Man Love
This old screen has Pac-Man burnt into it and we think it is awesome. Just think of all the good times that the screen has seen. It makes us feel a bit dizzy.
So we can say with certainty that the owner really enjoyed playing the game. Ah, those good old days.
23. Is It an Elephant Tusk?
At first glance, it looks like an old elephant tusk. In reality, it is a crosscut of an old water pipe showing so many layers of limescale that have accumulated over time.
It must have explained why the water pressure was always so low. Unhealthy eaters should keep this photo in mind the next time they try to eat something oily.
24. Broken Bones Story
This windmill has worn down stairs and the bottom step shows where everyone would pivot.
And given that we used the word 'Pivot,' now we can't shake that famous scene from sitcom Friends where Ross yells on the stairs "Pivot, pivot, pivot!"
25. The Reason To Why It Lasted So Long
This person uploaded a photo of their great-grandfather’s driving license no. 052 issued in Halifax, Yorkshire.
Given that it is printed on cloth, it has lasted for so long. They should frame it so their future generations can see it.
26. A Cracking Mom
So this person took a photo of their mother's clipboard. She has been doing the newspaper crossword puzzles on if for 30 years and this is how it looks.
This might be our favorite of all time because she remained dedicated to cracking layers upon layers of questions. Our recommendation to this person is to keep the clipboard somewhere safe. It's a treasure.
27. Talk About Paving A Way For Future Generations
So this door has worn away after being hit by a doorbell when opened for over 50 years. It means many generations passed through this door over time.
At first, it does look like melted wax. It seems like they deliberately painted it like that to emphasize it. Good old-school marketing.
28. Thank You for Your Service
The Stanley thermos on the left deserves a lot of respect and praise for its loyalty and resolution to serve its owner. After all, they used it every day from 1970 to 2018.
The old thermos was built to last for a long time. However, we have a strong feeling that their new thermos won't even last half as long.
29. Once Seen, Cannot Be Unseen
The paint peeled off on the building over time and now it looks like the head of a lion. It took a moment to see it but this is pretty amazing.
On second thought, it looks like courage the cowardly lion. After all, you can't expect Simba to be hiding here.
30. Super Super Tight Security
Geee.... wonder what the security code is? If you make a wild guess, it could be their address: 3944. Or maybe they're planning on playing with the mind of any possible intruder.
Given how some people can be very drunk on weekends, their chances of getting the code right are still very slim.
31. Are These Gummy Worms?
Although they look like gummy worms, it is not safe to break off a piece and taste it.
These are actually rainbow stalactites formed as a result of years of dripping dye. It is pretty amazing.
32. The Trespassing Sign Didn't 'Sign Up' For This
Why watch horror movies when you can see a tree swallowing a trespassing sign. It is scary for the sign and awesome for us (just like horror movies).
The trespassing sign was like "no one can pass" and the tree was like, "Hold my beer. All trespassers will be devoured!"
33. That's ‘Barking’ Mad
So the tree is stripping the paint off the sign. And now it is in this process of covering itself in the paint. Wow, nature is amazing.
It looks more like the tree ate part of the sign and someone painted the missing part on the tree.
34. Judge a Person By Their 'Sole'
Someone left their shoe in the window for 2 months and forgot about it. Well, it shrunk and this is how it looks now. Our suggestion is to try putting it into a freezer. Our suggestion is not baseless. We gave it because of thermal expansion...just like Jesse Pinkman says, "science bi*ch."
If it doesn't work then they should place the normal shoe in the window for two months and then give the pair to a kid.
35. Looks Like The Piano Needs To Go To A Dentist
We can 'note' some wear and tear because we are really clever. After a thorough investigation, we have found that only one tune was ever played on this piano.
It looks a bit creepy. Who knows, maybe some monster plays it every night. There’s a possibility.
36. It's Shedding, Like A Snake!
This person’s aging shift knob was hiding a perfectly good looking one underneath. Now that the leather is gone, it has transformed back into a base-model.
So now we can say that this shift knob is a 'Shape Shifter' or not? We’re begging for your approval on this one.
37. The Greatest Metal Band of All Time
So a weathered target sign now looks like a heavy metal band logo and seriously, we're not even complaining.
We even think that Target should start focusing on making all their signs this way. Their logo should be "Shop and Roll."
38. Shut Up and Just Take My Money
This skateboard deck is amazing. It scratches off over time to reveal the full graphic. That is so smart and absolutely amazing! The art that keeps on giving!
One wonders how come they didn't come up with such a brilliant idea before. Even if you're not into skating, buy this one.
39. Are There Narrow Footed People?
This is 300-year-old bar's footrest and the bricks wore away faster than mortar. Amazing!
They should have made the whole thing out of it. At some point, people need to stop putting their feet on the mortar.
40. When Cold Water Makes Things Pointy
The nut and bolt in the left photo are from the sea. The other photo is close to the sea. The photo on the left shows how the sea made it so pointy. Even the wood looks so cool.
The pirates used to swab the decks every time it rained. It is because they had to drag saltwater from the sea and cover all the wood with it, otherwise their boat would’ve started to rot.
41. Mighty Concrete Beaten
This is how the water wore away the cement's top layer and we think it looks so much better now.
There might be a possibility that some kind of acid did all that damage because rainwater never does it.
42. What a Cat's Tongue Leaves Behind
Do you know what this is? Well, get ready to have your mind blown. This is what it looks like when a cat licks cheese. How crazy is that, right?
As cats are cousins of lions, you should know that a lion's tongue is as rough as sandpaper. It has tiny spines that are used to scrape meat from bones.
43. Just Like Creating a Path To The Refrigerator
This person ran the same hill sprint enough times during the quarantine that they created their own path.
On the other hand, most of us just created a path to the refrigerator during the quarantine. And now we're making New Year’s resolution to lose weight.
44. Sock Buffer Services
Why buy a buffer when you can use your socks to do the job. This person buffed the right pedal on their piano for over 10 years.
Now it is time for this person to start using the other two. Why are they so against the other two?
45. You Only Live Once, Use It The Most
This person's in-laws have a teaspoon that has seen the bottom of so many cups that now it is worn flat.
So it means that their in-laws kept on drinking a small amount of metal for so many years.
46. How Many Customers Contributed To This?
This corner shop in South Gloucestershire, England, is the next must-visit place on our bucket list. After all, it has been serving customers for so long that now there's a worn-out floor.
And how many of you want that pirate ship? It feels like we've just stepped back in time! Those toys in the front are so cute.
47. Smooth and Slippery
These stairs made in stone at Turkey's state-run park looks terrific. However, it also looks like an accident waiting to happen.
We did some research and it turns out that it's all limestone that is porous and provides some traction. Still, it is best to be careful.
48. Kids, Don't Become a Pen Addict
This person used a lot of pens during their four years of undergrad and this is how their collection looks like. They even saved up old dried pens (who the hell does that?).
Still, we have huge respect for what this person did. After all, people usually lose their pens before they are empty.
49. An Automatic Choice
It seems like the owner of this gas station didn't learn from this photo. It is because every customer clicked 'NO' and still they keep on asking the same question. Every customer is like, "No, I don't want your over-priced car-scratching carwash!"
Now that the no's have spoken, can we just get to the part where all you have to do is dispense gas?
50. Now Can We Please See The Cards
We all know that someone in the family or friends or outside with a violent history. What is the first thought that comes to your mind when you think of violent people? Those with a criminal history, right?
Well, the area under the card swipe shows how violent some simple-looking people can be. A couple more years and the whole building will be split into two.
51. The Magic of Pressure Washing
Any New Yorker here can easily agree with the fact that there are some buildings in the city that look way dirtier and older than they have to. After all, most neighborhood buildings don't get painted or even washed for years or decades. As a result, the buildings look dirty and unattractive.
But there is an easy solution to the problem: pressure washing. With pressure washing, a building (no matter how old it is) can look brand new. Given that some neighbors living in these buildings don't approve when it comes to washing the building, it is not that easy to get the cleaning job done. If you want to do it, just convince all the neighbors by showing them this picture.
52. Almost Worn Out Stairs
It is not possible to calculate the number of people who stepped on these stairs. Instead of coming up with an exact number, let's just suppose many people walked on these stairs that lead to the top of a mountainous area.
As a result, the set of stairs have become almost completely worn out. Given that the stairs are made of stone, it took many years before they were finally worn out.
53. Black Hole of Posters
Although the internet has made digital marketing popular, the cheapest way to advertising events, businesses, and services are through posters. That's why posters have not gone old even in this age of technology. So it seems like this pole has been a popular stop for advertisers as it has layers and layers of worn-out set of posters.
The color layers do make the pole look a bit different, but just imagine the number of ads and personal notes on it. By the looks of it, we're pretty sure it won't be the last layer of posters on it.
54. Don't Underestimate The Power of the Sea's Breeze
If you think about it, a fresh sea breeze can give you one of the best feelings in the world or it can slowly damage your property. Given that most people only get to experience good feelings, we feel bad for those who live by the sea.
In coastal areas, the sea starts to spray chloride and small particles of salt, causing corrosion of certain materials. This image shows how the doorknob is damaged after getting exposed to the sea breeze for a few years.
55. Hiding Away for Too Long
This penny remained hidden in a pocket for over 60 years. It seems like the penny heard about what happens to other pennies and decided to hide in the pocket. And has it ever happened that you find forgotten money in one of your pockets? It's a great feeling, especially if the money is still in good condition. But we're sure this is not how the person felt who found this penny.
So someone found a penny after six decades. However, the penny was so worn out that it would only serve as a souvenir. Who knows, some collector might pay good money for it.
56. When You Sharpen Your Knife and Skills
Butchers always sharpen their knives before cutting the meat. This person sharpened their blade for 41 years and this is how it looks now.
It makes us wonder why this person didn't buy a new knife. But then again, there are chances this knife holds some sort of sentimental value.
57. No Need For a Cut Away
Although the majority of things have become automatic, some things have stayed with us. Take an example of paper cuts that have still not entirely gone. There are many companies and people who still use them and some have been using the exact same paper cut for many years.
Take an example of this image in which you can see how using the same paper cuts can create marks that never go away. The machine at this company has been through a lot and the cuts show different stages of how the company developed over the years.
58. No Doubt It Was A Fun Ride
Dog lovers can give you millions of reasons for how having a dog gives you the best feeling in the world. After all, dogs are super friendly and loving companions that stay with you no matter what happens. They never leave you because of your looks, commitments, financial condition, or anything else. All they know is how to love you, unconditionally.
So this family has had some incredible memories with their doggo who turned 13 years of age. They decided to change his ID tag and realized that it had changed so much. They should keep it safe somewhere or have it framed.
59. For The Love of Music
As a young adult, owning a car is considered a great accomplishment. And you get the satisfaction and happiness of spending some memorable times in your vehicle. It becomes more special when you stay with the same car for a few more years.
This person clearly loved their car and listening to music so much that they might have clicked on the music/radio button more than any other button. Now, it seems like they only clicked on one button and nothing else. Wow!
60. Hugsy: Teddy Bear Version
You know how Joey in the famous sitcom Friends loved his Hugsy Penguin. We think this teddy bear on the left is someone related to Hugsy because 30 years of hugging did it to him. So the story behind these teddy bears is beautiful. A mother bought her son two identical-looking teddy bears back in 1985. She gave one teddy bear to her boy and stored the other one hoping that her son would be able to give it to his own child one day.
Well, the son grew up and got married. When his first son was born, he gave the same teddy bear to his son. They also placed identical teddy bears next to each other and realized how many times the worn down teddy bear was hugged in the past years.
61. Another Thing To See At The Amusement Park
Amusement parks can be super fun, especially for kids. Take an example of Disney Parks in the US, OCT parks in China, Disneyland in Paris, and Parques Reunidos in Spain.
As people have to wait for hours in line to experience the most popular rides offered by these amusement parks, you can see the steel floor all worn out. This steel plate has been stepped on so many times that now it has started to develop its own shine.
62. Not a Scene From a Horror Movie
You see that either a monster or a scared human makes scratches on the floor, doors, or walls in horror movies. But these scratches on the door are quite special. They are the result of a smart doggo trying to open the door by using the same paw.
Dogs are smart and they can do incredible things. This dog learned how to open the door with his paw. He has been opening the same door from the same place for so many years and now there's a visible mark left.
63. Cool Fence Markings
When this fence was built, the owners didn't pay enough attention to the tree behind it. They ignored the tree and time went on. But when the roots of the tree expanded underneath the ground, the tree started to grow.
A point came, the tree started to push against the fence. Finally after years of struggle, the tree broke through and now has fence markings left on it. We know that the fence won't remain there, but its mark will be left on the tree for many years.
64. Not a Scene From The Ring Movie
The rings at this barbershop may seem a bit odd, but they actually show the shop's significance. It has been around for so many generations, and the rings emphasize how popular it has been over all these years.
Here is a fun fact for you. Barbershops have been around for a very long time. They date back to 296 B.C. when Greek men used to sit in barbershops to debate and gossip while having their hair and beards cut.
65. Generations of Caps
One thing we know for sure is that this person loves his caps. He posted a picture of his collection of old, current, and future caps and people were surprised to see his loyalty to one particular brand.
The condition of his most worn out cap shows that he wore it for many years. His taste hasn't changed throughout the years and it doesn't seem like changing anytime soon. His commitment is surely commendable.
66. When Your Cat is a Carpenter
Cats hate taking a bath (well, most of them) and they love to scratch. It seems like scratching is in their DNA and they do it whenever they wake up after sleeping for many hours or even after eating. This family cat has been around for 12 years and this is how she showed her love for one of the bench legs.
Now that the leg is almost spending the last days of its life, we wonder what the cat will do next. They better remove the bench as it could be crashing down anytime soon.
